# Momentum — Smoower Index methodology

> Is the ecosystem moving right now, or coasting?

Weight: ~14% of overall.

Measures recent activity rather than accumulated size: commit activity trend, release cadence, share of repos that are actively maintained, and growth in stars, forks and contributors over rolling windows.

Growth windows are computed on repositories present in both the current and the baseline snapshot, so a change in scan coverage never shows up as a phantom gain or loss.
