Guide

Claim your organization

Claiming an org lets you correct its metadata — logo, description, docs URL, packages, communities, and satellites. Anyone can submit an org; only verified members can edit it.

Step 1 · Sign in

Sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft. This creates your Smoower account but doesn't yet prove you belong to any GitHub org.

Step 2 · Link GitHub

On your profile page, click Link GitHub. We use the read:user and read:org scopes only — enough to confirm you're a public member of the org you want to edit. We never get write access.

Step 3 · Make your org membership public

We can only see members whose membership is set to Public on GitHub. To flip yours:

  1. Open https://github.com/orgs/<your-org>/people
  2. Find yourself in the list
  3. Change your visibility from Private to Public

Step 4 · Edit

Visit your org page on the index. If we can verify your membership, the Edit button appears. Changes apply immediately and trigger a fresh re-analysis in the background.

See Edit your organization for what you can change.

Troubleshooting

  • Edit button is missing. Most often: your membership is still private. Set it to public and refresh the page.
  • The org isn't on the index yet. Submit it from /analyze, then claim it once it appears.
  • You're an admin but not a member. GitHub distinguishes owners from members; we accept either, but you need to appear publicly in People.
